Homemade Pumpkin Spice Syrup
Don’t bother spending a fortune on a pumpkin spice latte when you can easily make one at home…and it tastes sooo much better!
I never got the hype around pumpkin spice lattes. (More of a mocha kind of gal.) The handful of times I’ve tried them they were overwhelmingly sweet and there was no real pumpkin flavor. But I’m a lover of all things fall, and I like the idea of a pumpkin spice latte, so I set off trying to come up with a way to make them at home.
What I landed on was a delicious, thick syrup spiced with cinnamon, maple, ginger and nutmeg and I found out that I like it even better served over vanilla ice cream than I do blended with coffee (although that ain’t half bad either!).
Ingredients
- 1 cup sweetened condensed milk
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup maple syrup
- 1/3 cup pumpkin puree not pie filling
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 teaspoon maple extract
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- pinch of salt
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, combine all ingredients and whisk over medium heat until mixture comes to a simmer. Store in refrigerator for two weeks (mixture will thicken as it cools).
