DIY Brown Sugar
Brown sugar is so easy to make at home…you’ll never be without it again!
This is another one of those things that I seemingly never have on hand. I think most people who bake are constantly using brown sugar for something-or-other, and for that reason I’m always running out. Brown sugar adds moisture and a depth to things like chocolate chip cookies. It has a nice, toffee sort of flavor that is pretty much due to the fact that it’s basically white sugar with molasses added in. No really…that’s how they make it. I’m not talking about turbinado, demerara and the like. I’m talking about the big packet of light or dark brown sugar you can buy at the grocery store for a couple of bucks. That’s literally refined white sugar with molasses added in. Which makes it really easy to duplicate at home. I actually stock up on molasses over Thanksgiving and Christmas because I can buy it on the cheap at Aldi and it keeps for pretty much forever.
