Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Grease an 8 x 8 pan, and line with a parchment sling.
To brown the butter, heat over medium heat, swirling the pan occasionally until the butter melts. The butter will begin to foam up. After the foaming subsides, watch carefully as the butter will start to develop brown flecks and will begin to have a nutty smell. This should take about five minutes or so. Remove from heat and transfer to a medium-sized mixing bowl.
Whisk in the brown sugar and maple syrup. Whisk in the egg and vanilla extract. Add in the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Mix until just combined and then blend in the chocolate chips.
Transfer to greased and lined baking pan. Bake at 350 for 20-25 minutes or until just set.
